The spirit of Scouting is a powerful force around the world. I have had several opportunities to experience first hand the impact that the World Organization of the Scout Movement has in over 160 countries.  Over the last couple of years, our Council International Committee has organized several trips, promoted the Messengers of Peace initiative, utilized the International Camp Staff program and sent youth to the 2015 and 2019 World Jamboree.

My son Carter and I are  Baden-Powell Fellows.  We attended the fellowship weekend in Zurich, Switzerland  in October of 2014.  The highlight of our trip was spending the night at Kandersteg-the International Scout Centre.  I am also a member of the Africa Scout Foundation.

In November of 2014, we traveled with a contingent from the South Plains Council to Costa Rica where we completed over 35 hours of community service working in the rain forest and a local park.  We repeated this Messengers of Peace trip in 2015 and my son completed a recycling project for his Eagle Scout award.

In May of 2015, we attended the Dorcester International Brotherhood Camporee in London, Ontario, Canada.  Venturers and Boy Scouts from my council were given the opportunity to participate in many outdoor activities.

In 2015, I attended the World Jamboree in Japan and served as the Hotaka Sub-Camp Chief.  I was responsible for the daily operation of the sub-camp for over 2000 participants, with duties including meal distribution, maintenance of bathroom facilities and communication with adult leaders from over 30 countries.

I was selected for this position following a council cultural exchange and community service trip to Costa Rica  in 2014 where I met Leonardo Morales Morales.
